Problems
Below is a list of common problems, how they are caused and which product is used to fix them. The products stated are the default products for the problem, however others may be required instead or in conjuction with them.
Compaction

Compaction is usually caused through the compression of the soil. This can be from players, vehicles or equipment. Eventually the roots do not grow in the soil but in the spaces between the particles.

Thatch and Mat

Thatch is a layer of surface fibre, mainly situated on or immediately below and not integrated with the soil. A Mat is a layer of fibre that is partly or wholly integrated with the soil.

Black Layer
Black Layer is a form of sulphur that has bonded to metal (metal sulphide) and occurs in all soil types. Black Layer is a clear sign that the soil is anerobic.

Toxins

On certain acid soils iron compounds within the soil can be leached into water courses i.e, brooks, streams and into the drainage systems.

Dry Patch

Dry Patch is a major problem in fine turf management. It mainly appears following dry spells, initially in isolated patches. The area becomes water repellent (hydrophobic) and rooting within this condition is generally poor.

Water Logging

Water Logging is caused by excess amounts of water in the soil.
